@2girls1comp Mate, I love your mods 😂
@2girls1comp Wait, what?? Once I placed any message, I'm not able to remove them individually?? That's not good.
This mod can go wrong in so many ways lol but cool idea tho
Absolutely fantastic idea and I love the fact other players see it...although that is also a massive concern. I suggest an ability to hide messages or potentially limit where messages can be placed (to avoid huge clusters of messages which become unreadable, maybe a minimum proximity or something?), as well as the ability for the message author to remove their own messages, otherwise things are gonna get a bit messy. Overall absolutely amazing idea though.
@Zsombor_99 @Monkeypolice188 I honestly believe the messages being there might be a safer idea. Otherwise the site needs to link every message to people which can lead to a massive paranoia too.
The idea of it was simple and inspired from something that was popular it 90s. Someone hikes up to a place no humans live. Carves something nice and important for them on a tree, such as the first letters of their names, or a nice short message. No one knows who was the owner of the message, but anyone who crosses their paths there reads it.
Of course in the past, no one was abusing this with shit messages either, unlike how so many can do now. So perhaps the owner of the mod should have the ability to delete messages to adapt the changes happened to world and humanity since 90s...
@InfamousSabre @Zsombor_99 @Monkeypolice188 Thank you for your messages.
We have decided against a filter, since they are ridiculously easy to circumvent. Furthermore, we do not offer players the possibility to change or delete their messages, as this would require us to store user information.
However, we moderate the database to exclude hate speech.
The excessive clustering of text in the meantime, is a creative strategy that we don't want to take away from players. Even if it can get messy :)
We hope that answers your concerns!
This looks like good fun :) Well done!
@2girls1comp To be clear, by filter I don't mean something to disallow people writing offensive things. I agree with your method of accepting and moderating texts. I mean an optional setting for a user that would hide offensive texts from being seen on their machine only. Either way, really cool mod and idea!
@InfamousSabre right, this could be a simple keyword blacklist as part of the config, and users could decide what they want to hide locally. **** it out or just hide the message entirely.
If you wanted to add the ability to remove messages without having to store user details, you could generate a private key pair locally, store the private key on the local filesystem, and sign the message to the server and send the public key with the message. To delete a message, send a signed code with the message ID and verify the signature is from the same key. If it is, delete the message.
@2girls1comp I have a simple idea. The mod could have a simple "owner checking system" for multiplayer:
The mod could store the user placed messages in file1, while store other users' messages in file2. When the user press "use" on a message to edit it, the mod could preform a simple check: if that message is in file2 instead of file1, the mod simply displays a message "you not own this message, access denied" above the minimap as a clientside notification. Theoretically, no user information required to be stored for this method.
Also, a clientside setting option, like "findmyown", to display messages from file1 in italic if this setting is set to "1" to differentiate messages from other users'.
I read the comments above and it seems that the text written by players is stored on your server. Can you add a local file where players write their own text and then save the text? You can not keep other people's text but only keep what I wrote. It would be better if you could keep everything. For example, if I change my computer and reinstall the game, I can restore the text I wrote before through this text file. And if, and I mean if, your server goes away, or you stop making mods in the future, then these texts will be gone.
just try it
Been using this mod for a week and this is what we needed. I don't know how to descibe it as there are no such words to define this epitome of scripts. It's a revolution what modding community was lacking. It deserves more downloads for god's sake!!!!!!!!!!
Perfect, it's Dark Souls
Try Finger But Hole
This idea is very cool. Haven't downloaded it, but seems like you're using database storage for the messages which is a great solution. The idea reminds me to some of the written messages you can find on like the pavement of some cities (in real lifes). But now these are digital, so a more modernized variant. Cool!
This is giving me flashbacks to The Talos Principle with the ability to lay down messages on any part of the map.
This has developed into unrestrained schizoposting and I'm so glad I'm here to witness it.
Er, regarding you guys storing all data on your server....
How are you complying with GDPR? How does one elect to remove their information if they want to?
@axslayer33 Thanks for your question.
Anonymous data does not fall within the scope of the GDPR.
Come for "try finger, but hole", stay for the ability to poast ":3" at major story locations
